I Finished a Quilt today!

I have called this quilt SB 24 plus 1. About 2 1/2 years ago I bought a book by Susan Briscoe. I disappeared into my sewing room (which, in those days, was a mezzanine floor about our kitchen) and made the first 24 blocks from her book - I was in a block making frenzie! The centre block is the one applique block from the back of the book that really caught my fancy.

Ok, top made! then we moved house! About 12 months ago the top came to the surface ( buried in the moving box!). Another frenzie ensued - this time the quilting - it took my mind off the energy my Mum was drainig from my sister and I (my Dad died and we had to care for Mum - 24/7.). Finished the quilting and it sat because I didn't have any binding cut and I just couldn't get my head around that. How silly!

Well, this week, when I was going through the draw that I keep my bindings in and guess what I found? Yep - about 10 metres of black binding already cut! (How did I forget that?) All I had to do was iron it in half, sew it on and stitch it down!

Here she is. This quilt will always be very personal for me because there is so much about my Dad in it!

One day I will write about my Dad - he was amazing! (Still is, in my head!)

Detail of the centre block!

Hugz and look after your parents if you still have them!

The Book, Japanese Quilt Blocks to mix and match is full of them! I'm very pleased with the final produce. I wish I had a wall big enough to hang it on!

Love it Sally!
I've just done one of Susan's designs - appliqued circles which has taken me 4 years to finish. It's one of the take everywhere projects which has dragged on. Now hoping the Sashiko doesn't take another 4 years!
