Dijanne Cevaal has thrown a challenge out!
"So..... i would like to throw out a challenge- is anyone out there willing to follow the KISS principle?( KISS- Keep it Simple Stupid)- make a 50 cm square quilt using only two coloured fabrics ( or white for that matter) and threads ( as many colours as you would like) but using only straight stitch by hand or machine- no fancy stitches- of course straight stitching can be done in any form- and absolutely no embellishing- just fabric and stitch and your imagination!"
Well I grabbed that challenge with both hands and ground to a complete halt! I had a vague idea - whole cloth? maybe? Not sure! The last week I found the most amazing drawing on Pam Holland's blog. I hope she doesn't mind, but I've used that drawing as my inspiration for my Kiss quilt. I'm using a piece of fabric that I have been patting and stroking for months - a piece of rich cream 50 - 50 cotton/silk. It is so much fun to just "cut loose" with the sewing machine.
I started to make my Kiss quilt this week. You can see a liitle of the work I have done, it's just a peek! I put the quilt on the ironing board while Icleaned up the kitchen after dinner and look what I found when I got back! He was the prettest stick insect I've ever met! I think he was just as curious about me as I was about him. I finally had to move him outside because he wasn't going to move on his own.

And I thought you were going to show us some quilting incoporating the stick insect. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the challenge
what a cute little fellow. He probably wanted a closer look as I do. umm think I will pass on this one.
I am doing this as well and at the moment am stuck on what I am going to do and have a million other things I am doing.
I think it is a praying mantis, a young one. They are really sweet.
A very inquisitive insect and an interesting challenge.
I thought the same thing..that the 'little guy' would be in your quilt somewhere! I started quilting on my KISS piece but have been too busy going to art shows, flea markets and lunchs! I have to stay home and get some work done. I LOVE this challenge!
Hi Sally, love your blog, my friend Wanda put me on to you. Will keep reading..
Love the praying mantis quilt!! Keen to see the end result of the challenge.. wow..
hugs
awww cute! ... looks like a praying mantis to me too ... (btw - they eat stick insects - LOL)
I have not even started my KISS quilt yet ... but I have discharged a couple of bits of fabric with bleach, because I figured I might end up using one of them for the quilt.
At least you're on the way Sally - your cloth sounds delicious! I bought yet more threads, decided to use simply woven fabric, and continue with the idea I originally had - this is not simple at all, is it? At least, the design and decision phase - hopefully the stitching may be better!
