Experimenting with Feathers

I've started a new quilt.  This one is a little larger than the last few which were in the A4 - A2 range.  This one is about 5' x 5'.  More feathers and more of my gelatine plate monoprints.  This time I have remembered to take photos of the monoprints before I started to paint and stitch them.

From the time I lifted this print off the plate I have loved it - the detail in the print is amazing.  I'm going to have to be very careful I don't over embellish it!  The trick is to know when enough is enough!

This monoprint I lifted at the same time as the first one.  I have started to paint it.  This was a much fainted print than the first one and needed to have detail added  (for some strange reason I printed diagonally onto the fabric!??????!).

This is how the quilt looks at the moment.  There is still a lot to do before I can start to sew!

Any comments, helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I like your technique. How do you do it? It is similar to the gunk you set then float paint/dye on top and the lay our fabric on top? Are they real feathers that are used to start.
Next visit to Tassie would like to visit and check out what you do.

I can see another master piece in the making! Love what you have done with the feathers - especially the silver one on top that climbs onto the black background! What will be placed in the open black spaces or is that deliberately left blank?

Again I really love the look of your feathers. Looking forward to where you go with it.

Beautiful prints Sally - are you going to do anything with the black areas?

This monoprinting technique looks amazing, your work is beautiful. I would love to try something like this sometime. I'm hesitant to try because it looks so difficult and time consuming. If you know any websites where I could read about it, I would be most greatful.

Hi Sally,
Actually I read further into your blog and found that you had posted some very helpful information about Linda Germain on YouTube. Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you
