Orange Power

This is an experiment using Orange Power to transfer an image from paper to fabric.  I drew the feather and the scanned it.  Everything I have read or been told about this process says that you need to use a fresh photocopy to get good results.  I had been told the same thing about preparing thermofaxes.  After a lot of research I discovered that the important thing about the image to either burnt or transferred is a high carbon content!  More research and I bought myself a cheap HP printer!  The two images above are of the print from the HP (on the left) and the image on fabric!  It worked!

I'd better get back to work now!  More later.

Rainbow

This is a photo of a reflection of the double rainbow I posted yesterday.  I posted it on my other blog but I thought it needed more sharing!

I Love Saturdays!

The reason? I can sleep in! You have no idea how much extra energy I can get from an extra 2 hours sleep!

Sweet Pea (DH) and I went for a drive into town to Spotlight (yes I know, but gee! They had a sale on bolt ends! I bought 24 meters of white homespun and 24 meters of black homespun for just over $200!). That should keep me happy with my paints and dyes for quite some time! The washing machine is working overtime. I was only going to buy a little bit of fabric but Sweet Pea (DH) just kept putting the bolts in my arms! I have a very special Sweet Pea (DH)!

We came home and did a bit of housework - this house is so small it only needs a little bit!!!   In an hour we vacuumed and dusted, washed the floors, planted cabbages and Asian greens and re potted the maiden hair fern!

Then I played in my sewing room!  My Poppy and Feather quilt is ready to sandwich!  Bugger!  My supply of batting is really sad.  I need to go batting shopping!  No batting the right size!  Grrr!  I've only got little bits left.  So what do I do?

I played with Shiva sticks and the rust dyed fabric I made last summer.

Pomegranate

Three Poppies

And a Pear

Two more elements and I think I might have a new quilt happening!  I think Lindi might be right!  These quilts might be for sale some time soon!  Ta Lindi!

I love Spring!

I just had a really good look at this photo that  I took this afternoon.  We had TGIF drinks in the staff room after work ( I work in a school).   I reached  for the camera that usually lives in my pocket.   Oh no!  I didn't have my jacket on and that rainbow changing by the second!  My camera was in my office, in my jacket pocket !  Not too many staff rooms have a view like this.   I really do work in the most amazing space!
I work in an special enviroment with a  group of very caring people!  Thank you for all your care this week - it has been a tough one!  This week we said goodbye to a very special Lady!

Ros - this rainbow is for you!

Still playing with paint!

Practice with oils pastels and paper!

I have stunned me!!!  Bad grammer I know!  Sorry.

I will be doing something with that pomegranate - promise!

I am learning so fast. I've never used oil pastels before and shiva sticks are just amaing!

I was playing with oils on paper to work out how to use the shiva sticks on fabric.  I wanted to make poppy head ghosts!  I might have done it,  I hope so.

I still need to fix the poppy head on the left!  Humm!

I would love an opinion on what I have done so far!

How did I do it?

Annette  took me seriously and asked how I did what I did with the prints I
showed in the last post.  I thought I'd do a bit of a guided tour of the fun I've been having for the last couple of weeks!

1. Green and brown poppies and pears

The large pears are a lino print and the text and the rest are eraser prints (I just bought soe more erasers - I love how easy they are to cut. Its a shame I can't get larger ones.

2. Vertical Pears

Lino again and playing with colour on my pallette. This might just end up hanging on my Kitchen wall once I've played with it on my sewing machine.

3. Gelatine plate mono print, eraser poppies and some of my lino feathers. I like monoprinting using a gelatine plate. The softness of the plate seems to change the texture of the print. As the plate breaks down (as it evenntually does) you get  some serendipity starting to happen and you get some very interesting effects.

4. Summer grasses - sunprint

The sun was finally warm enough ( and visible!) to try some sun printing. This print is Okish - definitely a winter print but I like it! I dried some grasses at the end of last summer and I used them to sunprint - I wish I had dried more of them. grrr!

Something to work with later.

5. The start of another wall quilt.

Now - this is a work in progress - I am very hopeful it has a big future! What have i done here?

a. Lino print red back ground
b. Hand painted poppy head
c. Eraser cut prints
d. Foam plate print with an eraser reduction (I used a roller to paint the plate, then stamped it with one of my eraser stamps to remove some of the paint)
e. A little bit of piecing and applique happening as well!
I really like where this is going at the moment

6. Triangular mirror (it was the only think I had that I like the shape of) with rubber bands.
It was magic when I saw that I accidentally lined the prints up to creat a chain effect. I'll be using that again I think.

7. Foam plate prints

When I first started to learn how to do lino printing I bought a pack of foam plates that are designed for printing too, but I didn't use them - I got hooked on the lino!

They are so easy to use - I "drew" on the foam with the end of one of my paint brushes. The wiggley line with the circles is just that, drawn with the end of a brush!

8. Spray paint with masks

I had fun in my button draws! Buttons, buckles and charms. The paint sprayed a little splashy but I like the effect. I think the yellow was a bit to thin because it started to wick badly. I had to dry it quickly with the hair drier.

9. Monoprint!

I had fun with this one. Agasin I used the gelatine plate. I painted it blue and then used a toothed scraper to remove some of the paint. I put circles of plastic onto the plate and then lifted a print (not shown). I carefully lifted the circles and repainted and scraped the plate. I then placed the circles back onto the plate with the paint side up (the paint from the first print). I took a second print - this one.

I hope that all this makes some sense!

I'd love to know what you think.

A really busy weekend!

The older I get the faster time seems to pass!  All of a sudden it looks like Spring is in the air!  Yeah!!!  The daffs are up and looking bright and chirpy.  The birds are starting to get a bit vocal in the morning and about sunset! (That is the best sound!).  I'm not holding my breath though!  Tomorrow the max temp is going to be only 9C if the weather man is right!  Ouch!  That is cold!

I know Spring is in the air because I've spent the weekend cleaning!  That is so scarey!  We had a Grandbaby to stay for the night last night and DH has been working at the golf club all weekend so I just "did" stuff!

I forgot to say that on Wednesday we had the best rain for 6 months!  This is a photo of our deck doors!  There is an eight foot covered deck between these doors and the great outdoors!  The rain blew in from the southeast big time!

The  garden loved it!  We had over 2 inches of rain in 36 hours! Magic!

The sun was finally warm enough ( and visible!) to try some sun printing.

This print is Okish - definitely a winter print but I like it!

I dried some grasses at the end of last summer and today I used them to sunprint - I wish I had dried more of them.   grrr!
Something to work with later.

Now - this is a work in progress - I am very hopeful it has a big future!

What have i done here?

1.  Lino print red back ground
2.  Hand painted poppy head
3   Eraser cut prints
4.   Polystyrene print with an eraser reduction (wow - that one is going to be hard to explain!)
5.   A little bit of piecing and applique happening as well!

I love this piece.  It is a mono print I did last year.  It is a reduction print!  (explain that one Sally!)

Today I used eraser cuts tp over print it - there are poppies (are you surprised?)rain drops and two little pears!

I think this one might be a keeper too!

Some thread painting and a bit of quilting and I think this might make a good little quilt.

I am still having so much fun with my paints!

A Creative Weekend

I've had the best weekend!I'm still having so much fun with Lyric Kinnard's class.

Cut two new Linos

This one is Poppies (12" x 12").

I decided to print it on some of the rust dyed fabric I made last summer.

I printed a few of these - I'm reasonably happy with the print.  I thought about making a few minor adjustments but I decided against it!

The collection of Poppy fabric is starting to build!

While I had my cutting tools out  I took to two erasers!  I cut two little poppies.  On the other side of the erasers I cut the word "Pear"  I had to do it twice because the first time I cut it the wrong way around! I knew I had to reverse it but did I?  No!

I forgot to take a photo of them before I printed with them - Grrrr!  Please pardon the paint.

I just had fun with this little piece of fabric!

I have no idea if I will ever use it!  Maybe I Will?

I've only just finished cutting this one so I haven't printed with it yet.

I think my three little pears might be interesting.

While I had my paint out and on the pallet I thought I would have some fun with some of the gelatine plate prints I did last year.  Out came the big box of linos and the big pile of fabric waiting to be transformed! (you should see my sewing room!).

I'm looking forward to attacking this one with the sewing machine!

It could possibly be for sale when I have the time to finish it!

I think this one might be a keeper too!

It is a gelatine plate monoprint, over printed with feathers.  Hummmmmm!

Yesterday I spent the day playing with my food and my sponges!

I can't spell but this photo is silly!  My Sponges are "different" - where did I get Diggerent from!

My batteries are now charged and I think I might be ready for the new week!

All my creative juices have been used to the full this weekend.

I'd love to know what you think about the work I have done!

Enjoy the new week.

Those Pears

I added salt and waited!

One of the pears took off to the right! - I can live with that! Is fixable with a paint brush.

This one is a keeper!

Is this much fun legal?

This morning Mark (DH) and I went for a drive.  We looked at house and land and amazing views.  Did I take any photos - No!
Did I have my camera with me - Yes!
  Ah well! Next time.

We went to the markets and found scallops on special!  Yummmmmm!  Mark bought a kilo of them and we then went to DD1's place to share them with her.  We arrived at lunch time!  Typical!  We always manage ro arrive at meal times. As we were leaving look what I found up the up in the wine magonlia that dominates their front yard!  Yep two little grand children.  Aren't they cute?

Just look at that sunshine - the forcast for today was rain, snow and cold!  I think the weatherman got it wrong.

After lunch I went into the sewing room to continue with Lyric Kinnard's class.

This was an exercise that I really wasn't looking forward to.  I very nearly skipped it.  Nah. I said to myself!  Don't be a sook!

So here we are.  I made it hard for myself - 3 circles not 1 - trying to defeat myself before I start.

Now to add the paint!

This is the finished product.  I think I like it!  The process wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.

This my next attempt at crayon batik!  It is still wet.  I think this might be a bit more successful than the last one!  The lines are much finer.

Humm - I seem to have a thing for pears at the moment!
